Chase Weber ‘09 may look like a skinny water polo player, but don’t let his looks deceive you. He ranks in the top three for both the discus, and shot put events.

His six-foot-one, 175-pound frame is not the norm for shot put or discus throwers.

Weber has been competing in shot put and discus events since the seventh grade. He is a seasoned veteran who relies on precise technique rather brute strength.

“Yeah, I guess so, I improve every year,” says Weber.

He has in fact been improving by leaps and bounds over the past few years.

“He has been going up by maybe fifteen feet every year,” says Coach Shane Hedani.

Since the tenth grade Weber has qualified to compete in the state championships for track and field. After coming up short his sophomore and junior years in the state meets, Weber and his father decided that he couldn’t just rely on technique anymore. Recently, Weber began a rigorous work out routine that will, he says, make him state champion.

Weber recently broke his personal best for discus, throwing one hundred fifty feet, two inches. He is in third place in the state ranking for shot put, with a throw of fifty-one feet, six inches. Only eleven feet and one half-inch separate Weber from Number One.

“A lot of people hate Chase, just hate what he can do,” says Ryo Chow ‘11. “They all wish they could be like him, but they can’t. It just frustrates people.”

Weber hopes to go to the state meet in just over a month and a half, which will be held on the island of Hawaii. His hard work and determination will aid him when he is put to the final test of his senior year Track and Field career.
