Throughout our childhoods, teachers influence us in many ways. They not only help us improve our test scores, but enhance our chances of attending a good college and pursuing our dream jobs. In recognition of what they do for us, we celebrate their efforts during National Teacher Appreciation Week, from May 7 through May 13.

Take this time to thank all your teachers who have helped you get to this point, whether you’ve had them in the past or have them now. Students in the past have shown their thanks in many ways.
“There have been letters and cards from students that were generous and kind. I could tell that they were meaningful to them, which then was super meaningful to me,” said Mrs. Michelle Yoshioka, a science teacher who has taught at ‘Iolani 14 years and received her fair share of appreciation. “Other things that stand out are the ones who come and visit or keep in touch. I realize that they feel some connection–some desire to come back and reconnect.”
`Iolani teachers are here to help support us through our academic lives, and what they teach here will benefit us in the future. Whenever you have time, go ahead and thank your teachers. You can do it verbally– pay visit to their classroom sometime and say thank you. You can do it through gifts — send your teacher a nice letter, and possibly include something extra!
