Kathryn Teruya ’14 attended the Miss Teen USA competition at Atlantis Paradise Island Resort in Nassau, Bahamas this summer. She was selected to represent Hawaii at the national competition after winning the state competition last November. Each co

mpetition consists of three phases: swim suit, evening gown, and interview. Teruya says she is “so blessed to be named a semifinalist in the top 16 of Miss Teen USA 2012 as well as the People’s Choice 2012 thanks to the people all over the United States and abroad who voted for me online.”

During the national competition Kathryn says she grew closest to the contestant from New York, Sabina Mastrangelo, saying, “We

are so much alike because we are the same height, age, and have similar personalities.” When asked if ‘Iolani and Hawaii should be looking for her in the Miss USA compeition in a few years, Teruya replied, “Anything is possible. I would love to run. Right now, my education is a top priority. Should the opportunity arrive where the timing is right, I would be honored to once again represent Hawaii.”
